So, what are you driving and what mpg does it get. I drive a Prius which gets 60 mpg and a Sprinter based Airstream RV which gets 25 mpg. I'm doing my part to try to keep the demand for oil down :D

I drive an F250, V10 and I don't even bother to check the mileage any more. It's horrible.
My philosophy has always been to drive what you want/need and if you can't afford, or choose not to afford the fuel, don't go.
We figured it out. It would take 22 years @ $4.00 a gallon + insurance and and normal maintenance, to amortize a $25000 car that gets 40 MPG. In other words, I could buy a lot of gasoline for my vehicle with the $$ that $25000 car would end up costing me.

Right on Gene! That's been my philosophy for decades. I drive my vehicles until the wheels are ready to fall off (I do replace tires though). Once I get to that point I buy a year old model and repeat. My wife's vehicle, on the other hand, is a different story! Wonder why no text editing stuff works for me today? Here in the drafting area today the background is white - it usually appears grey. Maybe I'm not holding my tongue correctly?

Fred, I, like you, drive what is the most economical in as many levels as possible to meet my needs. Wife has motorized wheelchair that is 258 pounds with a lift on back, a Bruno chair that puts her in and out and I have room for the grandchildren. Around town, the Toyota Sienna gets about 19 and on the road about 29 mpg. It was a year old, cost about 28K and we've put all of 20k miles in the past 5 years. Doing what my 65 year old body will do and what my wallet can afford. I try not to put much money into the greedy pockets of the oil companies. Even use battery lawnmower, hedge trimmer and weedeater. Smells better, quieter and takes a bit more time. But, I'm retired. :)
