I am thinking this is a preliminary dive that will lead to better space suits and eventually produce a way for high altitude pilots to eject and get back to earth alive.

Side note: When in the Army as a ballistic meterologist, each day we computed the speed of sound for artillery forward observers. The forward observers pressed a button when seeing enemy fire - the sound that followed was recorded by 6 microphones. Making easy triangulation on enemy guns.
