What did he say about it? "A good solid machine."?
He said it was "Worth every dollar".
I agree, that it must have been written in with the idea of future appearances. Someone on the show must be a big fan of Shopsmith, and wants it known. Glad they went with the 10ER. It fits Jethro's character.
I liked the big grin on his face at the end as he stood in front of it in his basement. Reminded me of my reaction when I first got mine in my garage.

Check out Pawn Stars. It showed up on there a while back. They went to a owners home to check one out. I can't remember what the out come was.
I think the son bought it for his dad.

I haven't watched the show in awhile. How did Jethro get the boat out of the basement?

He's keeping it a secret.

The Shopsmith that came up on Pawn Stars. The son didn't think it was a very good investment and could not see where he could sell it. However, the old man bought it. He had a big grin on his face at the time and commented about how the Shopsmith was extremely sought after by every home handyman in the 50's.

Nice catch! Not surprised you were the one to catch that, though!
I'm trying to think of any benefit to doing this. The only thing I can think of is to lock the table at the highest position without having to reach to the lock knob on the other side. But that explanation is an even bigger "stretch" than reaching for that other knob would be. Maybe a "sawdust collector" for making wood filler? Otherwise.... would that let the table move closer to the headstock? And why would that be desired? Nah, had to have just been a goof.
