Just coat the paper disk with Oops or Goo be Gone and wait a few minutes lifts off in one piece. I'm almost certain Acetone, Lacqeur thinner or Naptha would work also.
My problem is getting the glue on older disks to adhere. I'm considering spray adhesive.
Years ago Shopsmith has a big big sandpaper sell and I stocked up. Big mistake after about 10 years the glue loses a lot of its stick.

I have a lot of those old PSA disks as well and have found that they stick better after applying pressure to the metal disk and sandpaper in a woodworking vise. I simply put the disk with the paper mounted and give a good crank on the vise handle, then rotate the disk, apply more pressure, etc., until I've worked my way around the entire disk.

Important to understand the acronym PSA stands for
PRESSURE Sensitive Adhesive. Merely putting the disk in place doesn't qualify as pressure.

Has anybody tried the newer velcro conversion? Since I don't have any paper discs to use up I could start fresh, if it's a good idea that is.

I got one, way back, when I had my first ER. (84/85?) The velcro had a bit of "give" to it, and didn't make sharp corners. (Think sanding with a foam-backed disk.)
That was 20+ years ago, they may have changed the design by now.

My interpretation of pressure was standing on my disk on the concrete garage floor. All those Hostess products had a long term benefit for installing sticky paper.

Now that's a GREAT BIG idea!:D:D I qualify in that regard and now I won't have to fiddle around with clamping the disks in the vice eight times to get pressure all the way around the disk. However, I have to figure out how to get the disk off the floor. Once down there it's hard to get up because of the increased strength of gravity at floor level:eek:
