SS does not consider the table tubes a repair part since the tapered pins are forced in at the factory. Notice they provided NEW taper pins for the diy double tilt upgrade.
They do not offer double the dual rack tubes separately for (to me) obvious reasons. I am surprised they have the diy tubes sans trunion.
I assume they compromised by thinking one swap is ok.

There are many parts that Shopsmith does not offer as "repair parts". The first examples that come to mind are the bearings. We all know that given the required part numbers for these parts, the user can do a bearing change.
For another example think motor. For still more examples take a look at all of the new parts introduced by the PowerPro and/or Double Tilt.
I believe this approach is nothing more than a business decision .

I agree! However there are subtle factors that affect that decision.
Most 'hobby' folks do not routinely replace tight fit bearings and retaining pins. Ya open a can of worms if you make those parts readily available(legal rumblings due to possibility of folks getting in too deep and blaming the parts purveyor).
As a folk who does
not consider my 'getting in too deep' any body
else's fault I lament such decisions.

So are you saying that despite the fact that the pins can be banged out ( see you tube video in my original post), they cannot be reused and banged in again?

I have a couple sets of the table legs left over from the many modifications I have done. Please contact me at my Email address as I am sure I can supply a nice set of table legs. I actually had a set in my hands today while looking for another part.
If anyone is looking for any Shopsmith parts not normally available or sold by Shopsmith, please contact me as I have quite a large number of Shopsmith parts that I collected for over 20 years. Lots of old odd-ball types of Shopsmith items/parts that are no longer available. May take time to find them in my many shelves, cabinets, benches and boxes as it is too many to inventory or list.

I am saying that because new pins are included with the upgrade as noted in the video.
I have to
assume there is some deformation of either the pin or the tubes etc., or both and the new pins
may be different from the original pins.

JPG--I trust your instincts, and conclude that I better not fool around with removing the table from the tubes and then trying to re-seat it later. I am, therefore, down to my original thought--finding another set of tubes. Happily, based upon some Emails, getting a spare set of tubes may not be as difficult as I originally thought.

I don't think that I would "fool around" with a tube and tie bar assembly that I intended to use but the legs can be removed and reinstalled without loosing functionality.
I have removed the legs from a tie bar assembly so that I could rotate them 180° and reinstall them. I was experimenting with the idea of rotating the table like in "double tilt". Those same legs and tapered pins have been reinstalled in their original configuration.
Bottom line - this can be done if you really want or need to.

The pins are designed to be pressed in and out. If you can do that, it is best that you do. If you must drive them in and out, don't beat directly on the pin and back up the tubes else you do damage to the cross bar.
The gorilla will certainly loose this battle.
