Though their prices are silly, i do think that the bridge city jointmaker is a really neat tool. Wish I could afford one!

Bill, the Rockler in Pittsburgh had the whole Delta midi lathe on sale the other day for $250.

Pitt is too far to go. If you check the catalogs you will see that Woodcraft no longer has the Delta lathe in it. They were probably purging their left over stock.

Ah, so, but there are some things Bridge City makes that are unique (Centerscribe f.e.) , and well worth a premium price. And in some cases, a BCTW "upgrade" may be to a Starrett as a Stanley is to a 'no-name' hardware store model. [And I can't think how to adequately describe the pure pleasure of observing, holding, feeling, and using my CS-12/18. A most worthy splurge.]

On the other hand, even as a solid fan (& I have a few BCTs) I will admit the prices sometimes are just not justifiable, unless to a pure collector. I think this newest is one. I got the Veritas model many years ago and it does what the BCTW does, almost, and the difference is not price-justified, imho. (But they must price like that to stay in business.)

Speaking of collecting, I've been acquiring BCTs for decades (takes a while to save up for one) and some of the items have actually increased (significantly) in market value (unless I've really worn 'em down- i.e. beat 'em up).

In this particular instance I agree completely. I might pay 15-20 bucks more for the fit-n-finish and added functionality of the BCTW unit, but no more. The Veritas does a very fine job (and I thought it was a tad overpriced when I bought it. Not after I used it, tho.)
