That noise is the "Occasional Set Screw, Tinnerman Clip, Spare Parts and Miscellaneous Hardware Items Thought Lost" Alarm, which activates when a sufficent number and variety of "thingies" (Technical term) collect in the motor pan.
This is by way of a reminder that the pan needs a G.I. party ever onct in awhile, for safety reasons, and to be ready at all times for the periodical White Glove inspection called for in the Warranty Registration, Section 244, Part 3, Para 76 (paren).

By the way, we've conducted tests and can say with some degree of certainty that should a saw blade and arbor, as a result of one of these set screw departures, leave the immediate vicinity of the headstock under power, chances are fair to middlin they won't go much farther than the nearest wall. (or two)

I always thought the lower saw guard in conjunction with the table insert would prevent that errant blade from ever leaving the spindle.

Such is the level of my sarcasm.
I had a case of French Setscrew awhile back (wherein the screw
surrenders to the forces of Vibration) and consequently spent more than a couply minutes studying those areas you mention, concluding too that there's no way the blade can ever go anywhere, leaving the only real hazard that of the blade free-wheeling after the operator
thought he stopped it. {Imagine a blade spinning, but NO motor noise. The fact that you can't see the individual teeth doesn't register right away. Possibilities are a little scary,}
