I'm attempting to attach a copy of sheet Teknatool included with the free replacement ISNS adapters Teknatool provided to people who had purchased the Shopsmith Chuck Kit and were provided the IFNS adapter in error.
It goes back a way to this thread:
http://www.shopsmith.net/forums/showthr ... =teknatool
It seems some people were having problems and some were not. I had purchased my G3 Kit from another vender off of Ebay and was provided 3 different adapters before Teknatool was nice to send me two of the correct ISNS adapters for my G3 Kit for my Shopsmith. They sent two, because the first one never made it to my home.
I can understand the main points are the angle of the larger 5/32" Allen set screw and a 'beefier' ISNS adapter. The larger size is most likely a result of the set screw angle & larger diameter 5/32" screw used throughout the Shopsmith.
The IFNS Allen metric screw is almost one mm smaller than the 5/32" Allen used on the ISNS. I think it is 3mm on the IFNS. I've held both the IFNS & ISNS adapters along with a third I can not recall in my hand.
I think there was speculation that there might of been a problem when using the G3 and then switching from forward to reverse mode on the PowerPro or those Mark Vs that have been modified with a reverse switch. Or perhaps people experienced an issue with the adapter becoming loose. I honestly don't remember.
Last night I read a post by a Power Pro user who mentioned their DVR motor pulley set screw has loosened up on him, not once but two times. Holy cow, that can not be a good thing! I know the motor has a 5-year warranty. But it seems odd a motor set screw is loosening up- ever.
This G3 adapter issue had been brought up many times. Kinda reminds me of a dead horse. But it still seems there is still an issue, with not Shopsmith selling the G3 Check kits, but rather other companies who are not aware there is/was an issue and they are simply selling a 5/8" adapter which easily fits the Shopsmith. Most do not know the ISNS adapter is Allen set screw hole was bored at an angle to match the tapered angle on the Shopsmith so a 5/32" Allen screw rests flat on the taper & not at an angle. Think about it.
It seems the IFNS adapter has worked for many & for many years. Regardless, Teknatool provided free ISNS adapters to anyone who received a IFNS adapter by mistake which I believe was ordered through Shopsmith. Included with the adapter is a sheet I've attempted to attach. (It is also on that 10-page thread along with pictures and other comments) The last line of the Teknatool letter states it (ISNS adapter) contains important safety information and to read and follow the instructions.
It's up to each of us to follow the instructions if we so choose. In this day & age people do what they feel comfortable with. Some will use safety equipment, wear eye protection, and some just won't. I'm not an expert, but try to help and assist forum members when I can. But it seems strange the price of a replacement adapter from Shopsmith is over $50. I think Shopsmith offers a good deal on the kit when they have it on sale, but their normal price is not competitive with other venders. C'est la vie.
Shopsmith has some unique specs to ensure future business like for example the width of the miter gauge slot in the table ensures only a Shopsmith miter gauge bar will fit as all others are too wide.
Teknatool has a catalog and sells any adapter for $19.99- any adapter except the ISNS- it's not on their adapter list on page 4 of their catalog. Perhaps a phone call to Teknatool Customer Service might help. A while back someone discovered there was an issue when a person ordered a ISNS Shopsmith adapter, the Teknatool computer was still putting in an order for a IFNS adapter. That was corrected after someone brought it to their attention.
Here is the catalog link:

Good luck.
