I know when I talk to my brother we often do it. What we are both careful of is not challenging the other statements but simply adding our own. Both have an outlet and neither was called wrong.

I always like "If I were King" approach to discussions on politics and economy. That way I get to vent and nobody is slammed for having a differing opinion.

So Dusty I do hope you consider revising your resolution

I may not have the muster to comply with my resolution but I'll not revise it!!!

Happy New Year to Dusty and all the rest of the group. I'm old fashioned and I believe it's not polite to discuss religion or politics in social situations, despite my strong opinions. I never talk politics on facebook and I think poorly of friends who like to toss a bombshell in a conversation just to provoke a fight (I have a few friends who love to do this).

Having said all this I was emboldened by all the political discussions in the community forum. I felt I had something to say. My facebook friends are all people I know and see from time to time but you good people all over the country are computer friends only. So I broke my no politics rule here just to see what would happen.

It was fun and I enjoyed the discussions but it's just too much work to try to eloquently state my case and defend my positions. So I'll probably avoid the political discussions but for totally different reasons than Dusty. It's just too much work.

Oh well, now I don't know what the "Community" forum is there for.

I can agree to keep political sniping out of the other fori. And like someone said, I won't introduce any, but I won't sink my head in the sand in answer to any, if I think I can be constructive.

The problem with any discussion be it politics, religion, or the price of tea in China we all have opinions and none of us have the right to say the other is wrong. We may be misinformed and thus have formulated an incorrect opinion but no one goes out and thinks up a totally wrong opinion.

So instead of defending an opinion, if everyone simply stated on what they based their opinion on people would understand how that opinion was developed and we would all get a little smarter.

Instead we defend and turn most discussions into tit for tat contests that resolves nothing, and teaches us even less.

For instance I can't tell you how much I learn from "Farmer" because he usually includes the basis of what formed his opinion. I don't always agree with him but I learn tons of things I never knew from him. To me such discussion are invaluable.

Well Ed, since my contributions are already so very reasonable and stated with unassailable logic, I don't feel the need to state the basis for them.

Most are retrieved from a dark bodily cavity, anyway.

I solemnly resolve to not make any New Years resolutions.

I also resolve to enjoy life (every day of it) - and will do and say what I believe is important for others as well as myself.

I dearly love that I am old enough to be eccentric! Even a Geezer and a curmudgeon.
