Yes, my construction Shopsmith has been towed short distances and hauled on a trailer to more distance locations. 2" ball hitch. The basis for this shopsmith was from a Shopsmith that feel off a pickup truck that made a sharp turn. Since it was raining every day when we started the remodeling, I had to quickly find a way to get the Shopsmith on the job yet keep it from all the rain. I used my Kobota to tow the Shopsmith into my shed each time it rained and then quickly bring it back to the site once the rain had finished. Took about 4 hours totally build this unit. Much later , I replaced the slightly bent way and bench tubes. I used it to add a 1,000 sq ft. to our home in 2004. I had a Sony 2K invertor strapped to one end table to power the Shopsmith and all the power tools we used in building this addition. Once the addition was dryed in, the Shopsmith stays in the addition until all internal trim work was completed. It was a very stable in the drill press position. The Shopsmith was used to make all the trim and baseboard. This Shopsmith is available without a headstock at this time.

Personally, i would love to find a group of shopsmith lovers in my area...

I think it would be great to have a shopsmith circle meeting if you will. Every couple weeks we meet at a different users shop...hang out..have coffee...talk shop and etc.

I'm definitely a believer that you just cannot have too many friends! If anyone in phoenix would like to get something like this started, please pm me. I certainly wouldn't be against putting Tucson in the rotation either,...

When I suggested KC molding at the corner of 10th West and K, he said he drove by it almost every day and didn't think about it. I looked at the national clubs Terry recommended and there was a group of wood turners meeting that very Saturday. I was running late, but made the meeting and found 3 guys ready to show me how to run my lathe without killing myself

I also want to share today's big score. Last night a guy listed a 520 for sale in Corona. I called him up and now it is sitting in my garage, along with another jointer, belt sander, Dust Collector and my first scroll saw. The headstock serial seems to indicate it was put out right after the switch to double bearing quill. She is grinding pretty bad at high speed and everything on it moves jerky because it needs some oil and wax, but it was quite a find.

I am not going to tell you guys what I paid. I am afraid you would all hate me, but I can't resist saying that the band saw and DC sold by me will more than cover the cost

It was a good day for me and SS. Not a good day for my wife and SS, because now there are two in the garage, she is frighted there may be a 3rd on Friday, because I have a line on a deal that will leave me with a free band saw. Cross your fingers for me and pray for my poor wife.

I may start a new post that just shows what I started with 4 weeks ago and how much I have now - maybe update daily. I think I might have a problem and instead of a SS club I may need to join an SS group.

Hi, My names Terry and I'm addicted to my shopsmith.

I'm new to the Shopsmith forum, still trying to decide if a there's a Shopsmith in my future or not.

This thread caught my eye because it mentioned local clubs. I live on the other coast in Virginia Beach, VA and I'm going to a club meeting (my first) this coming Monday evening that was formed by a group of SS owners 33 years ago in 1980. I guess back then there was actually a Shopsmith store in Norfolk, VA.

Shopsmith of course no longer has a store here, but these guys, the Tidewater Woodworkers Guild, have managed to stay together and now they meet at a local Woodcraft store. The link I posted should get you to the page on their website that lists their store locations. I see that there are some in CA and AZ, etc. I'm thinking that if they allow a club to meet here in Tidewater then it's probably something they do elsewhere as well.

Shortslvs, you're making me jealous with the deals you're bragging about. I'm not sure this conduct is becoming of a minister. On second thought, I guess the jealousy is really my problem. Happy for the deals your getting. Remember you will need some room to work in your garage.

I've just started keeping and eye on Craigslist. I'm hoping I'll meet some SS owners at the meeting Monday night and get some tips from them on finding a good buy. I'd love to find a good deal on a 520.

If a new unit isn't in the cards, don't rule out a good deal on a 510. They can be upgraded to a 520 from Shopsmith and often come much cheaper and far more often than 520. Besides you can wait to do the upgrade when you are sure you like it and Shopsmith gets some business.

Hi Terry! I am a Shopsmith addict too. I am afraid I always will be. My signature would take up a several more lines. I'm going to look at another Shopsmith on Thursday for one of the other members.

Shortslvs, I bet I paid less for the shiny/sparkling 520 & a new bandsaw I got in MD along with two cartons full of blades, arbors, biscuit joiner and other accessories last April. It was listed here on April 5 by one of the members who thought it would be picked up quickly. But I emailed the seller on the 29th & learned I was the first person! Go figure. I used the money I saved to transform it into a Mark 7.

I have to do an inventory as I have far more than I will every use. I had all I needed but deals came up I couldn't resist.

Ya know, I'm as into new as the nest guy, but I couldn't possibly justify it especially since I'm just testing the water. Looking at this from the same view point is why i like the idea of a SS over buying individual equipment with dedicated motors, etc. The other ting is that I've seen how upgradeable the SS is and that really impresses me also.

Last but not least is that I've been around awhile so I remember sitting in my living room as a young father with mouths to feed and no extra money watching SS demonstrations on TV and dreaming of the day I might own something that cool. That time actually came quite awhile ago that I could have afforded one, but I had to much else going on, raising said family and running a business.

No regrets, now I'm retired and looking to have some fun.

I like your idea about the 510, they might even be easier to come by. I'll certainly look into it. Thanks for the suggestion.

You may be right about the bragging, I was just sooo excited . My wife is now very concerned that my first purchase (partly sold to her as "look how little space it takes") is now several purchase leaving the garage with no space... I think today I am breaking out the wire brush, oil, and wax so I can start moving the pieces I don't need. This may be one of the hardest days of my life. LOL
