I got everything electronically and filed Jan 14th. Had the money in my account by Feb 1. Even though I have an accounting degree and have tax experience, I use one of the e-file websites to be done with it and avoid the hassle of printing, mailing, etc. I actually paid $15 to e-file a $22 state refund.

Over the weekend a friend's wife was complaining about the 2% SS tax cut expiring. They don't make enough to pay much income tax to begin with. I told her about 40% of my check gets withheld (granted some is 401(k) and insurance) and she didn't think 2% was so bad anymore. Sometimes I wonder if people really stop and think about what they put into the system vs. services and benefits received before they complain how unfair everything is.

Personally, I think if taxes were not deducted from our pay before we even saw it, and we had to send a check (or the modern world equivalent) to the government periodically, I think we would hold the government a lot more accountable with how they spend our money.

If you owe money, filing an extension but not paying just buys you fees (6%) and interest (5%). 11% is not your friend.

And if they owe you money, 0% interest is not your friend either!:D

Done and got the refund. Have done everything electronically since my credit union offered it. No charge for filing. Beats paying someone $175 for doing the same thing.

Yep, 8th generation Southerner. :p

Done enough to know I get a refund that should be sufficient to cover my property taxes.
