Thanks for everybody's reply! I took the advice of building it once to last and just picked up some 1/2" birch plywood for use in my drawer bottoms. Luckily I have a Dakota Hardwoods warehouse on the other end of my building. They have great prices on plywood and drawer slides.

Good choice, for glued and screwed bottoms,Alan:) . I am envious of your wood source! Would please like to see a picture or two as you build this chest. Love to see them!
Mine won't get started until later this summer it will have 12 drawers when the two stacking chests are completed. Don't even have the wood yet.
