For a turning project I wanted to rip 60 degree miters on some strips of wood about 2 inches wide, 1 inch thick and 7 inches long. Couldn't figure out how to safely do it on the Shopsmith. Any suggestions? Has anyone built a jig for this sort of situation?

Thanks,

Mark

Wondering how you came along with this cut?

Actually this is an issue that could be entirely avoided by following the advice given by couriousgeorge (Post#3). The solution is in the boards you use. No need for special jigs.

One of the causes of many problems we encounter in woodworking is sawing the length and width of pieces we need before milling special (needed) edges. It is almost always true that longer & wider boards are safer, easier and more accurate to mill than short narrow ones.
