On the far side of this thread I've contacted a manufacture about making a shopsmith 5/8" version of a collet chuck.
Today I've heard that they are pursuing it!
So if you are on the fence about getting a system hold on for a while if you can. I will keep you posted.
BTW I'm not profiting from this in anyway other then being able to buy what I want for my shopsmith.

Another satisfied PSI collet chuck user here.
PSI, CSUSA, and Beall tool all make or sell ER 32 collet chucks.
At present, the only adapter for 5/8 quill to 1" x 8 TPI threading that I am aware of is from PSI which I use for both my collet chuck and scroll chuck.
It is my understanding that PSI and CSUSA models are basically the same thing (Probably made in the same plant in China). The beall has a smaller nut to hold the collets and is therefore less of a knuckle buster.
I use my collet chuck for small objects. finials, pens, etc. the PSI set comes with collets (1/4", 3/8", 1/2", 5/8" and 3/4") but also accepts collets of any size for the ER 32 standard. Many pen makers opt for a full set of metric collets (a few hundred bucks on line) to increase their holding range. I believe it maxes out at 20 mm possibly 22? Just under an inch.
