Pro Planer Advice, Please

I recently changed out my planer blades on my Shopsmith Planer. I have two sets of knives. The set that I took off was originally a new set of blades. I noticed that the grind marks were perpendicular to the blade and rather rough. The last time I changed blades I sent the old set out to be sharpened so they are the set that I put on. I noticed that the grind marks on these are much finer and at an angle to the blades. They are much sharper and cut much smoother than a new set of Shopsmith blades. It also helps to make the sharpening jig shown in the owners manual and hone the blades while on the planer.

I don't know if anyone else has mentioned this, but there is a minimum width on the blades. Once they are sharpened to the point that that minimum is reached, they are not safe to be used. I can't get to my manual right now, so I can't tell you what it is, but you should check. That blade coming apart would not be a lot of fun.
