I found my treasure in the basement of someone's home. It is a green Mark 5 and according to the serial number, was made in 1956. They had it for a couple of years and found they were no longer interested in using it. I bought it and hauled it home. I took it completly apart ( the quill spring was tough to reassemble) cleaned it all up, oiled everything, put it back together and have been happily using it since. All it had with it was the table saw and the lathe equipment. I have had to replace some things account the previous owner let them get wet and they rusted and I couldn't save them.

I am a rookie and want to learn how to turn wood better than I do now. The Shopsmith website has been very helpful for finding parts or anything I need to keep my Shopsmith running well and for most anything else I will need by way of accessories. Be sure to sign up for any on line tips from them. It is a great site and there is a lot to be found.

I found it is very important to keep everything clean and oiled. I try to clean and lube the old girl every time I put her away. Purrs like a cat and hopefully will continue to do so for years.

I found another Shopsmith someone has in his garage that hasn't been used for years and is not wanted. I'm trying to get it too. That would be like heaven, having TWO Shopsmiths in my garage.

If you can find a Shopsmith, you won't regret getting it. They are easy and fun to use.
