Where's Dusty?

SWMBO has not yet agreed to this but I would like to spend my next birthday in Branson, MO and then swing wide through Biloxi, Corpus Cristi and El Paso on the return trip.

If you end up going, and you want a detour from the normal Branson activities or just some great sight-seeing roads and attractions shoot me a message.

I hope you're taking the scenic route on old Route 66! Call me Clark Griswold but I think getting there is half the fun.

I beeg to differ. In Missouri Route 66 was only swallowed by I-44 for 4 miles west of Rolla and then 16 miles from Allenton to Watson Rd in St Louis. Most places where they have the same route it was left as a frontage road. And there are plenty of post WWII realignments in the cities to choose from. In St Louis, the original crossing was McKinley Bridge before it was moved north to Chains of Rocks bridge...so you can still take surface streets through town and into IL.

I live on Route 66 and its a favorite motorcycle ride of mine.

We will travel at least part of Route 66. It just would not be appropriate to not do so whenever within range. I mean, after all, my wife just spent nearly $200 on Route 66 upholstery fabric for use in the RV. To be close and not travel the route would just not be right.

I still want to know what happened to the motor home you were bringing back to life. If I remember right he critters did some damage and you have a fuel problem. Why aren't you just using it?

That's what I'm talking about. If you're going to north to I-40 before coming east, you can pick 66 up there are take it all the way into Springfield.

And do you really have a motor home in need of TLC or is Ed just teasing me? You guys know vehicles + needing fixed = me getting excited. That's like getting the leash out and not walking the dog!

I had a Class "C" that was in need of repair. It had set for an extended period of time (which is never good but is really bad here in Arizona) and it was invaded during that idle time by pack rats.

I have recovered from that and I have since sold the motor home.

I have now turned my attentions toward the Aristocrat travel trailer and my old reliable 1993 Ford F250. Both need some TLC before they go on the road.

Trailer first and then the truck. Trailer is progressing more rapidly than I had expected. I am rebuilding the infrastructure of the roadside wall one piece at a time. I am so thankful for the Mark V during all of this.

When my wife suggested this, I jumped at the idea. I don't think she had any idea of what it will have cost us when we are finally done. We paid $3100 for the trailer when it was new. The new A/C, water heater and refrigerator will cost that much and I am not talking about wood, screws, glue, paneling, tile, tires, brakes and paint.

BTW - doing this would be almost impossible without Sketchup.

I thought maybe it couldn't be repaired or something. Glad to hear you were able to sell it if you didn't like it.

It is amazing how things have increased in price for no real apparent reason. Everyone keeps talking inflation but all that does is prices us out of the world market. I can't believe you have to spend what you paid to buy something just to fix it now. Seems like we are actually going backwards instead of forward.

Some things make sense like a TV, with new technology it is often cheaper to buy a new TV than to fix an old one. But something like a camper or trailer that should not be the case.

Oh well. I hope this doesn't turn into being a money pit for you. Keep us informed as you go.
