Hi,

Drill bits arrived. The collection was not as listed, I'll adress this at the amazon site but the original description list started at 3mm, 4,5,6,8,10, and 12. What arrived was 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, and 12, which is what I was looking for. Since the listed set did not have a 7mm I order that as a single bit, at added cost. How ever an extra 7mm bit might come in handy since that is the size I use in pen making.

The Soss hinges have arrived. Here is a picture of them.

I've never used these before but I'm looking forward to it.

The price seems a bit high, I paid $3.35 ea with shipping/handling, tax. I didn't find a better with the looking around I did. If I require more I'll shop around more first before I re-order.

I went to http://www.soss.com to get a pdf file of the part but the web site has an error so when you click on the 124 part it takes you to a 218IC part. I have notified them but I have no idea when they will fix the problem. I was able to by pass the error and get a copy so I'm off and running. If this is an issue for anyone let me know by PM and I'll provide you a direct link that I used.

Still have to find latches and pick a wood to use.

I am sure you are sensitive to this, but alignment of the pivoting parts is critical when pressing them into the mounting holes.

I mention this for the benefit of anyone who may not be so 'sensitized'.

I am not sure what you are building, Ed. For my project utilizing the 10 mm SOSS barrel hinges I used these catches from Rockler. Though I epoxied the circular plates in recesses as opposed to using the provided screws. The 5/16" size has enough holding power for small items like the earring case I made.

On a side note, I contacted SOSS for another reason and never received a response. I would urge you to check the screws that expand the hinge barrel to lock it in place. I had three that did not function correctly in the lot of 24 I purchased via Amazon.

Thanks for the heads up on the lack of function on some adjusting screws. Can I test them before hand or is it only apparent at mounting time?

I'm ordering the catches from rockler tonight while they have a free shipping offer. I was looking at lee valley but they did not have a sketch of their parts to look at where as rockler does.

As far as SOSS I contacted them late Sat. night, might even have been early Sunday depending on time zones. I had a response this morning. They are fixing the error and all should be well with the site soon.

I checked the hinges and one of the screws has a very shallow slot for the screw driver. I'm going to make it a little deeper with a cut-off disk in the dremel tool. The rest all seem to turn out/in and tighten.

Placed an order for wood tonight. Ordered the magnetic catches yesterday. It is starting to come together. Hope to get started later next week providing the wood arrives.

I had extra hinges so I decided to see how they worked and how well they held. It was during this evaluation that I found the problem with the screws. I did check the group that I was going to use as I did not want to fight them on final assembly. I found that I could back the screws out and 're-compress' the barrel so that it would again slide into the bore smoothly.

I am glad that you got a prompt response from SOSS.
