Male, female or in between, anyone who puts themselves in harm's way for my freedom deserves and has my respect and undying gratitude.

Y'all misinterpret it's meaning. Tis a term of respect! Like 'jarhead'.

Tis the context that makes terms demeaning.

As a former jarhead, I respect anyone who has earned the priviledge to wear that uniform.

Anyone care to comment on the term maggot? Jarheads will understand.;)

Don't even play that card. The term was derogatory and demeaning in it's inception. Perhaps it has been tossed around so often that some made wear it as a badge but everyone knows in what it was birthed.

When that this slang term was formulated one night in some latrine women in the Marines were not facing combat and weren't laying down their lives for this country as such.

But times have changed they are now serving in harms way and they are dying and I think they deserve the respect that death for this nation has earned them.

If the term BAM is so endearing as you would have us believe then show it engraved on a tombstone of a dead female marine in the Arlington National Cemetery. No it is not there and never will be.

With all due respect I object to the term and I can only imagine with the sexual harassement mess the millitary is now facing no one is using the term.
