Thanks. I am going to order one.

I just received a 2 1/4 inch drum sander that I bought used, it is in very good shape and came with 8 sleeves. Just wanted to check with those who bought one from SS, does it come with an instruction sheet and does it have 2 "expansion bolts" = set screws or only one as it is on mine.
I look on the website for a manual but could not find one.

There is two shoulder and I thought there could have been a change and one set screw on each side ... but may be I am wrong ....

Set screw? The expansion 'bolt' is in the other end of the drum.

One set screw is normal. One expansion 'bolt' is normal.

OK, got a drum sander with one of the Model 10s I got last year. Came with a dried-out rubber insert. I called up and ordered the one posted above. Works just as expected. A couple of "interesting" things;

1, the later Daytona based Shopsmith Inc drums (sanding drums) had fallen completely apart. The 3 Magna ones I had, are still good. Don't know why. Got both of them from the same guy.

2, the end of the drum that mounts on the spindle, has two cast-in bosses (or shoulders) for setscrews, but only one of them is drilled and tapped. I'm thinking the unused boss, (raised flat spot) is a counter-weight, to keep everything balanced. It could also be used to drill and tap for a new setscrew, if the first one gets messed up. Just looked at my 12 inch sanding discs, they have the same design.

Balance? Planning ahead, since aluminum is so soft? Who knows.

Thanks Steve, your insight clarify things for me and I agree with you that a second set screw could be set up if the first one get messed up.
