I have a 1994 catalog that praises the serrated steel infeed rollers (for both types of planers).

I have a 1992 Pro Planer (021592) that has rubber infeed roller.

The original Pro-Planer part number 514300 changed to 555082. I suspect that was the major change that caused the part number to roll.

The answer is NO, the Pro Planer has not always had a knurled infeed roller.

I have Pro Planer 514300, SN 021592 and it has a hard rubber infeed roller. Actually, it appears to be several roller segments on a common shaft.

My planer has the rubber rollers and I went straight to SS website to order the newer knurled rollers, but it says it's for the stand mounted Pro Planer only. Mine is the SS mounted version, so I thought maybe it wouldn't work. Anyone know for sure?

I looked closely at the rollers this morning, they do look a little scuffed in a couple spots. They also seem to feed better closer the edges than in the middle, which may indicate wear I'm guessing.

The part number for the new infeed roller is 555115 and is the same in both illustrated parts breakdowns. This same part number is listed as the replacement in the replacement parts catalog.

The part number for the infeed roller in my Pro-Planer (SN021592) is 514141. If you try to find that online you will be referred to the other part number (555115).

Dusty is it possible someone could have mistakenly installed the rubber infeed in your planer? Did you get it that way from the factory?

Yes that would be possible but I bought it new and this is the way it was delivered.

I just reread this thread. Are "cogged" and "knurled" the same as "serrated"? In this discussion I think so. In the thread we have jointly used the terms knurled and cogged while the catalog calls them serrated steel.

Just called SS service, per Dusty's suggestion, and she said the knurled or steel infeed rollers will work on all the planers. Again, she advise a good cleaning and 3 coats of wax on the table, as the first reply suggested. Guess I get to waxing tonight.

I am wrong! I cannot tell the difference between hard rubber and steel. I DO NOT have hard rubber infeed rollers on my Pro Planer 514300.

I called Gail and with her description of the serrated steel infeed rollers it is now obvious that I have the newer rollers.

I also learned that the two part numbers 514300 and 555082 are both part numbers that reference the Pro Planer. They represent different levels of assembly. The number 555082 is the top level number.
