Hi Doc! I adjust my camera to its lowest quality picture. (Lowest number of pixels) (On my little Cannon it is one star - as opposed to three.) With the lowest photo quality, then it works on the Forum! When snapping a shot with the camera set at high number of pixels - or high quality - the photo is too large to post here.

Hello, Doc. To post pictures I load them into a program called Microsoft Picture It and resize the picture to 640 x 480 pixels. After resizing just name the picture and save it to your hard drive ( I usually save it to the desktop so I can find it later). This size will easily download to most sites. There are a number of free programs out there that will do the same thing.

I prefer to use the computer to re-size my pictures. I might forget to reset the picture size on the camera and miss a future picture. It seems that many important pictures are usually the ones that don't turn out quite right and you never get the opportunity to re-shoot them.

Having just taken courses in Professional Photography the one thing they stress is always take photos in the highest resolution you camera supports. Archive them and never touch them, in fact many photo editiing applications will not let you edit the masters.

When you want to post to the web save as 72 DPI, 800 x 600 every site should allow you to upload it.

Ah, but don't I need to buy a photo editing program in order to change a larger (higher pixel) photo into a smaller number of pixels? If my simple Windows program called "My Pictures" has that capability, maybe I could do that if someone would tell me how. In the meantime I'll just continue to take low quality photos that I can post. It sure is a lot less complicated that way - and they seem to come out pretty good. Only problem is they don't enlarge 4 or 5 times very clearly. But who wants to do that?

A plus to taking low pixel pictures is my little camera will put 300 photos on one card. With High resolution a card will only hold 45 or so. The same relation holds true with storage room used on my computer's hard drive.

Life is full of choices!

High resolution photos and mucho memory OR Low resolution photos and much less memory.

Or both and learn how to use the computer and the camera for the best of all worlds.

No differently than when I started thread on Infeed/Outfeed tables quite awhile back. I had attempted to introduce the forum members to this great way to use their old 500 parts displaced by a 510/520 upgrades. Thread got highjacked with ideas using bicycle parts, you name it. Original idea died. Check out who shifted the thread....

Anyone wanting pictures of the versions I made, PM me. I've given up screwing with these posting instructions.

I will say one thing for the old SSUG.org. It was a snap (pun intended) to post a picture. Here it is a major PITA. But that's just my opinion.

Hi Doc,

I would be interested in learning more about this. I've placed an order for a 500 to 520 upgrade, and if there is something the old 500 parts would be useful for, I'm all ears. If you want, we can work it out so you send me the pictures and I post them (and host them) for you.

Alternatively - do 500 parts displaced by 520 upgrades even fetch anything worthwhile on Ebay? Is it worth the time to post and ship them?

Hi Chuck,
"My Pictures" is just a file folder to file your pictures in. It is not a program that allows you to do any editing. Microsoft does have a program called "Picture It" as described buy curiousgeorge in post 12 of this thread:

There is also an open source program called Gimp that can be used to edit photos. You can google it, or for a "one stop shopping experience" hit this link to go straight to the downloads. I've had to use gimp a few times for some of the users in the office's desktops.

Also, if you're having troubles uploading images to the forums, there are sites like photobucket or picasa that host images for free that you can link to in the forums (usually if this is the method that you go with it's best to provide the link instead of using the [img] bbcode tag since you can "break" the forum tables with incredibly large images).

Photobucket is just a site that you are required to sign into to upload images, picasa is actually a program produced by google that helps to arrange/group your pictures and then gives the opportunity to upload them to a personalized website. If you want to see an example, you can check out my picasaweb albums at http://www.redacted.com (right now it's just 2 albums: one of the house that we were purchasing and now live in and the other with quite a few pictures of our cats...)
