I consulted with a coworker of mine who is big into bicycling and he sent me a link to those clamps for sale for $125 each. And he sent me a link to a similar modern stand that was priced well over $500 - and it didn't look nearly as solid as the 10ER based stand. So, $400 might not be a bad price considering the clamps. Definitely a great way to re-purpose some spare 10ER castings.

This one is very similar to the one I used oh so many years ago.

Note that it still needs to be bolted to the floor or a heavy base. The ones I used had heavy round metal bases they were bolted to so we could move them (with difficulty) out of the way if needed.

I would like a stand but as you guys can see, the prices are stupid high. I either pile boxes around the wheels, flip it upside down, or rest the crank on a 5 gal bucket like a little kids dirtbike.

I've seen things like this where the price was high but legitimately the materials are expensive..great example being this motorcycle engine stand that costs $250 or you could fabricate one for $225 by my last estimate.

But in the case of bicycle stands, the prices truly don't make sense. That is on the list of projects I want to fab once I get better at welding.

After seeing the 10BR that started this post.

Perhaps all that's need is a clamp on an arm to mount to an existing SS in drill press mode.
