actually I just recently purchased it, I don't think maintenance was a over used word on the unit. And I didn't know about the oil hole until now. I appriciate all the tips and info.beeg wrote:WHEN was the last time ya oiled it? Ya sure the squeal isn't from the bandsaw?

If ya pull the outer sheave out, which compresses the spring. Then let it SNAP BACK against the motor sheave it can move it and rub up against the shrouding.drbailey wrote:No I didn't, reason being, it wouldn't pop up with ease and I was afraid of doing damage.

Fer now, squirt a shot of oil between the fan sheave and the motor. Tis a close fit and there has been a wear problem there.
A short spacer is on the shaft between the inner race of the bearing on that end and the motor end of the fan sheave hub. The spacer has been too skinny in the past and has a tendency to get buried into the sheave, thus decreasing an already close clearance.
All these parts should rotate together(shaft, sheave, spacer). If the spacer 'jams' in the motor casting hole, I am quite sure noise will occur(maybe even squealing!:D) as the shaft rotates with the spacer stationary.

When using my PowerPro 520 and turning a large bowl if I hit a snag there is a short squeal before the PP has a chance to detect the stoppage and stop the motor automatically. I suspect a loose belt might be my issue.

Belt 'screech' and bearing 'squeal' usually sound different. this original sound was for sure a metal sound, it would take approx. a minute before it started. sure sound great now,keeping my fingers crossed. Im still going to inspect it further today,havnt had time yet.

well, I will try to explain my noises as best I can. I do think we stopped one sound with the oil onto the motor shaft.
while installing the left side shive cover, one course sound reappeared.took the cover back off and it was quiet again. After close inspection and trial and error. I found that the PO had installed screws in the cover that were at least a half inch longer then should be. the screws were just barely scribing the BELT! I replaced the screws with the proper length screws and she sounds sweet. I cut up some board with the table saw, smooth.
