This rebuild is being done because this MkV survived a fire in my home. The basement didn't burn but the SS got pretty wet. The capacitor is in pretty bad physical condition , the cardboard cover is coming off and the ends look a little puffy. This motor has the relay on the back along with the capacitor, am I able to open the relay and clean the points, or is it a sealed unit?

I think its sealed but either way, I would replace the whole capacitor if it got really wet.

Puffy/underwater indicates a good decision to replace!

I bought a motor with the terminal end totally out from the shell in the e-bay pix. I attribute the low selling price to that pix. Pushed it back in. Tis still running!;)

Not quite sure what this means By the number of posts looks like you ask a few questions.

With the new capacitor, new bearings this motor is back in service and running smooth. I did open the start relay as suggested and cleaned the contacts, good thing too, it was real crusty inside, not sure how much longer it would have lasted if I didn't. Thanks all for the help.

I will guess what Dusty meant.]We[/B] gave answers assuming a 'typical' scenario.

However you revealed the under water detail and that changed the 'proper' answers.

Now I recall that submerged detail from an earlier post.
