November 16th 2012 They split me down the middle and did three by passes. My story was rather similar. Chest pains that were so mild I thought I needed to belch to clear it. Fortunately I saw my doctor the next week. He thought it should be checked out mostly because my father had the "Big One" at age 60. So we did the stress cardiogram. I should have been scared when they didn't have me get dressed. Within a minute the nurse was telling me stick this under my tongue (nitro) and in another minute the cardiologist said we want to do a cardio cath. today! Then they didn't even talk about stents after that. They wanted me to stay over night for surgery. I told them I needed two day for just like you I had a lot of details to cover. Like you they told me I was a great candidate non smoker, no diabetes, only about twenty pounds over weight and non drinker plus there was no evidence I ever had any type of heart attack. But I knew only one odd mattered, I didn't care so much about the other 99, my odds were one or zero.
Anyway I must have been the poster boy. Surgery on Friday and home on Tuesday. Then thirty six sessions of re hab plus lessons on eating. I now am in the best health I have been in thirty years (and at the same weight I was in college. So be patient and DO WHAT YOU ARE TOLD! It does pay off. The cardio diet is a real pain but my total cholesterol is just under 100. I'm planing on making a lot of saw dust before I'm done.
