It turns out "this guy" has a name - Dave. He used frequent the forums here, but he said he hasn't been on in a long time. He's apparently communicated at length with Bill Mayo. He mentioned Bill's name regarding repair and maintenance for SS planers and that's how I found out he used the forums. When he brought up Bill's name I said, "Yeah, I know Bill! Err, not personally, but I see him on Shopsmith Forums." I had to chuckle a little about that.
He also has a couple SS jigsaws he's planning to auction on ebay. He asked if I was interested, but I had to decline because I tapped out my tool budget until about June and I have a scrollsaw, so it would be a little redundant
. Anyway if anyone's interested in acquiring a jigsaw, keep your eyes peeled on ebay.
As for the planers, I moved the feed motor to the hand crank model and everything is peachy there aside from some routine maintenance; it is pretty much new inside and I just need a couple screws the secure the power switch to the frame. The other planer is pretty rough, needs both feed rollers (they're very worn and dry rotted), in feed cover, and adjusting screws for the in feed roller. The good news is I unstuck the table and it travels easily now; I just need to check that the chain hasn't jumped any sprockets. It turns out that a screw was in it jamming up the works and I also found this odd nut when I moved the planer - I haven't looked at the parts explosion yet, so I don't know what it is yet. The screw is one of three that secures the power switch to the planer frame.
