Alright, the tear down is done I I've got a short list of parts that I think I need: Drive belt (PN 521682), control sheave (PN 515556), and the speed control spring (PN 504196).

After my attempts to get the gilmer drive out I nicked a couple of teeth on the quill gear but those should be fine. I know that I need to replace the control sheave since the little nub cam out but can you recommend a good way to separate it from the Idler Sheave? Mine seem to be stuck together. Speaking of the Idler sheave, mine does show some wear and grooves. Should this be replaced soon? Will running it with the grooves prematurely wear a new belt?

I know the pictures aren't great but is there anything I'm missing? Anything that I should order from Shopsmith while I'm at it?

A bearing puller inserted in through the missing bearing hole that grabs the control sheave. Keep the 'grabbers' straight so it does not get cocked. You do not need to be concerned about damaging the old control sheave.

Squirt some penetrating oil(kerosene) in the same hole and soak over night before pulling.

A wheel puller may work better.

Then there is the well aimed hammer! :D

Kudos on taking this unit apart. It really needs extreme tlc.

New bearings are easy to do with it all apart(and a decent bearing puller).

Thanks! Taking it apart (and putting it successfully back together) will help me understand how it works, and that is always a good thing.

When you say bearings are you referring to the ones on the gilmer drive?

Yes!

The quill bearing also if yer 'willing'.;)

Leave the motor bearings for another day(when they start sounding off).
