JPG, I made the bench from scratch using hard Maple. I did it in the 80's. All my stops are wood so I can't damage plane blades. Works like a charm.

Is the maple native to Minnesota? Had a friend that in his earlier days worked for an uncle or cousin that had a maple syrup company. I think it was near Brainard (sp?).... is that near Fargo?
Nice looking table. Compliments the chest filled with "implements of satisfaction" (a term used by a woodworker I met).
Be well,
Ben

Very nice William.
Right now I'm focusing on user hand tools (planes, saws, chisels, hand drills, etc.) and not so much the "collecting" side of hand tools. I don't have the resources (financial or storage) for a collection of tools I don't or won't use on a regular basis.
And yes, more and more hand tools whenever possible/practical. If I'm under the gun, need to make multiples of the same component, or using modern engineered products like MDF, OSB, or Plywood, then I'll use electrons.
As for the speed increaser---

Very nice plane and implements to work with it. Now, I need a towel to wipe up my slobber.
