Thanks Forrest for your RFI experience. Had you sent your PP for repairs in response to that Radio Frequency Interference problem or was that something that they did on their own because it was a known issue?

Did SS make any comment about the nature of their repair that might help with an understanding of why the RFI problem repaired?

Must read the title of my posts since I often just continue a sentence in the body of the post.

My post was simple to say DITTO (the title) to artlinux's post asking Chuck how the rf (or line) problem was solved.

I have the problem, too, and cannot have the radio and PP on at the same time.

Is this now the ONLY issue that anyone has with the PowerPro?

How about the issue involving the band saw as an SPT? Does anyone still experience the knocking noise (associated as I understand) with rapid speed changes being made by the PowerPro computer. Was this ultimately determined to be nothing more than loose power hubs?

Dusty, there seem to be 4 issues I believe:

• Radio Frequency Interference (resolved after some rebuilds)
• Heat related shutdown after extended shaper operation at high speed
• Setscrew loosening in several places due to motor pulses
• Bandsaw issues

These are gathered in my memory from several threads and more details are available there.

I wish I understood it, but won't loose any sleep over it - after all it's gone!:D I'll never know which part or parts were to fault - or maybe it was a combination of some parts and the computer settings. They kept the headstock about three weeks. This was the second time I had sent it back.

Your second question is essentially the same as Dusty's inquiry. (Dusty will be glad to know the loose set screws are also not an issue.)
It was sent back to Shopsmith because it had a bad banging/jumping problem when bandsawing. Like Forrest's headstock, one of the things wrong was a motor drive pulley with an off center hole. Not much, but enough to help cause an issue when bandsawing. Forrest actually found this problem in his unit, so I checked and had the same thing. The banging/and related headstock jumping was bad enough to loosen the motor pulley set screw and also the drive hubs. Yes, both of them!

There is still an occasional bang and jump when re-sawing, but a lot better when sawing tight curves through 1 1/4" material. There is a growl from the headstock when starting at 3450 RPM with a saw blade on. I noticed today there is no such growl when starting at the same speed with a jointer attached.

To completely eliminate ALL bangs and jumps, when sawing 1 1/4" material, I hook the bandsaw to a speed reducer. I will saw out 75 to 100 cars when doing one of those projects. Running the PowerPro at around 6000 RPM (through the speed reducer) I shut down as often as I can and take breaks. This helps dissipate heat buildup.
