Do the following steps:

1) right click on the image/emote that you want to post
2) choose "copy image location" (in FireFox) or in IE goto properties and copy the Address for the image
3) open new post
4) paste the link into the text dialog box. Make sure that the link ends with some form of image extension (.img, .gif, .jpg, etc...), if there is no extension or it is some other thing (.asp, .php, .htm, .html, etc...) then you'll need to copy and paste again making sure to get the image location.
5) surround the link with

It should look like this when done:


I guarantee this will work for all web browsers, and all bulletin boards (assuming they have enabled using BBcode, if not there are other ways of doing it using html code, but that's a bigger pane)

Thanks guvnuh4. I'm sure this method will work if you are copying from another url, but I am trying to copy from my hard drive and paste to a post. It works fine if I paste to a document in my word processor, but it will not allow me to paste into a post as the paste function is grayed out. It's as if there were nothing in the clipboard.

I copy from a web page and paste directly to my post (even on a different forum). I had attempted to copy/paste the animated emoticons to my hard-disk via a word document, but was unsuccessful. There is never animation. I am not savvy enough to figure that one out. I have not tried to copy/paste the un-animated emoticons, as that is not what I wanted.

Tim, if you want to save a picture to your hard disk, after you right click on it, choose the "Save image as" option instead of a copy and paste. Then all you have to do is save it to wherever you want on your hard disk.

Thanks George, but I don't have any trouble saving pictures to my computer; what I haven't figured out is saving ANIMATED items. When I attempt to save animated items, such as the moving emoticons, they save as a still picture; no animation.

george: The reason that you're not able to post an image from your hard drive is that bbcode actually references the link for the image. It really is dependant on the bb system that is being used and if they have any plugins installed.

Tim: if you're trying to save an animated gif to your hard drive, you should be able to right click on the image and do "save image as..." (FF) or "save picture as..." (IE). Make sure that the "save type as" field is set as gif image, and if you have enabled viewing file extensions the file should end in .gif. The reason that you can't just copy/paste the picture into something is that copy/paste only copies one of the images from the animation, it doesn't copy the entire series, but actually by saving the file you are getting all of the image. (I actually tested this to make sure that it all worked by going through the motions with the smilie that I posted and I was able to get it to copy with both FF and IE and then view it using the default "Windows Picture and Fax Viewer," I'm pretty sure that if you open it in any editing program you'll run into the same issues. The image will still be animated, but you won't be able to see it (tested with MS Paint, MS Word, and Gimp, with Gimp I could actually see the images and layers, but not animated).)

Thank you guvnuh4, for your efforts. I copied a bunch of them using your instructions and they all had .gif extensions. I can view the animations in Windows Picture and Fax Viewer just like you said, but what good is that? I can not transfer them to a web document nor can I imbed them in e-mail messages. Any idea for that? Really, it is ok....I can just copy/paste them right from the other web site to any web site or e-mail message that I want.
