Cantputt, I have a really good friend in Bismarck, ND. In 2001 post 9/11 after we were activated (Air National Guard) we also got enrolled in Air War College. Anyone who has spent a year doing that will tell you it's a bonding experience and we both went on to make full colonel when it was all said and done, pinning on the same day. In any event, I digress only to make the point that we are very close friends. She loved my SS and so got herself a 520 new after she retired from the military. She had the same experience as you in her garage.

This past August I helped her and her husband raise the roof on her 20x20 heated garage addition and designated shop. Look at the positive side, here is your opportunity to get that heated garage you always wanted.

Clean the interior of the headstock with a vacuum and or some compressed air to clean out any sawdust.
Then try to start it again and if it hums turn it off IMMEDIATELY.
You may want to try installing the sanding disc on the main spindle and the turn the disc by hand. If it turns easily then the mechanical stuff is most likely OK. If you still have problems check back here for more info.

Thanks, I will open things up and get a better look tonight. I had a bumpy, snowy 1 1/2 hour transport so maybe something happened. I did have it tied down very well in an enclosed trailer.

LOL, that thought did cross my mind.

Broke out the old torpedo heater and warmed up the garage while I did my snowblowing.. I used the walls from an EZ Up to close things off a little. Wam bam the old SS fired right up. So glad I have that issue behind me.

been blowing 40 to 50 mph since noon today.

Luckily we do not have a lot of snow on the ground.


It is whipping what we do have into zero visibility.....

Ya, that's coming our way. Snowing hard right now and we have plenty on the ground. Tomorrow is going to be nasty cold and blowing.

Thank goodness for global warming! We're above freezing here in Anchorage. Which is good because my garage/shop heater quit working a week ago.

Western Michigan. We get constant lake effect snow from the cold air coming across the warmer water of Lake Michigan. My house is on the eastern edge of the Lake effect so I am not as bad as people along the lake shore. Right now we are deep in snow. South of us they are ticketing anybody driving today it is so bad.
