Lathe chuck compatibility?

Hi Phill! I think you have been given lots of excellent advice here. There is a whole bunch of turning you can do without a chuck. As I read this thread, I wondered why you thought you needed a lathe chuck. You can turn bowls without one, you can turn candle holders without one, you can turn pepper mills, toothpick dispensers, etc without a lathe chuck.

You probably will need a drive center however. (505715 Lathe Drive Center
Price $29.99) That's about as least expensive as you can find.

In my humble Opinion, buying cheap tool that will be thrown away later is a huge waste of money. Especially when we don't have much to begin with.
