Jointer Retro-Kit Upgrade Question

I think JPG nailed it with the observation that what really matters is the fence will tilt without interference. I temporarily installed the guard with double sided tape and put it through all of the positions and it seems to work well with the third hole aligned so that is what I will go with. My jointer was purchased in early 1977 and is clearly different from the more recent versions.

Yeah, that guard seems a little flimsy. I foresee a replacement made from wood in the future.

What about using HDPE for the guard?

I agree with a single exception. I was thinking about a more artful application of new duct tape. Cheaper and just as effective.

Or just leave it off and keep body parts out of that area. Worked fer a half century!;)

Rotating round smooth shafts do not bother me. Moving sharp parts are another thing altogether.

Back to the prime subject!

Here is a 'wide view' of my jointer fence and the unmounted flapping guard. It shows the location of both accessory holes.
