Haven't had buttermilk since I left the farm at age 16. Store bought buttermilk does not have that velvety taste as homemade. Used it for crumbling cornbread into it as a treat, as Mr. Bill testified. Folks around here go extreme on buttermilk biscuits, but they have a sharpe tart taste, not like home. So, NO, I do not use buttermilk in anything.
When a child on the farm,we let the cream float to the top, skim it off, put in in a half gallon jar and allow it to clabber. Then it was put in a crock jar with a dash and beaten until we skimmed off the butter and then chilled the buttermilk in the spring house. Along time ago. Thankful for the experience and thankful that I no longer have to do it.
