Welcome to the SS info station. If you can't find what you need to know here, you won't find it.
I will add to the chorus and say that $45 is a "no loose" proposition as you probably can't get a boat anchor for that price. Welcome to the club.

I took a look today. It's a Mark 2, with a sanding disc and a tablesaw. The plastic belt cover is cracked and missing parts. The bars are NOT rusted, though!

Still not a bummer! Most look down on the Mark 2, but it is useful. It is not as 'robust' as a Mark 5 nor as easy to change speeds, but will do most things a Mark 5 will. Just not as convenient.
You can ignore my 'greenie' post.
Pix will be helpful in determining what may be 'missing'.
Of interest to you will be the motor power rating.
It the rip fence is 'missing', there is one on e-bay.

Read this with a grain of salt. This was written by one who 'was not there'. SSInc. does not acknowledge the Mark 5, Mark 2 etc and instead insists on roman numerals.
Looking back in time, they are a bit sloppy with 'the facts'. The dates are I believe accurate.

I think that's a good choice. Save the money and wait for a deal to come along on a used Mark V or used 10er. You'll probably spend more than $45 but it will be worth it.
