Hi Don! Either one of your designs look like they will do the job. However choking down the 2 1/2" hose may reduce air flow and chip removal.

To Glenn; my thought is the 12" floor sweep (maybe it's 15") won't collect as many chips as a round 2 1/2" inch hose. Maybe you could report on how well the floor sweep works.

I made my router table when I got the plans that came with Issue #1 of Shop Notes. Closely followed the plans for the table, cabinet, fence, and dust collection device, with minor exceptions. Dust chute lays behind the fence bit opening, fully adjustable with one wing nut, goes anywhere the fence can. Vac hose simply plugs in, out of the way, non-intrusive.
In most 'normal' routing I get approximately 99.988% cleanup.

When I started using INCRA positioning jigs I didn't bother to upgrade the fence system 'cause I'd have to offset the jig to keep the dust rig- a small thing but I wasn't using the positioner much.

The system would work for your fence but you'd also have to offset either the positioning rig or the dust chute. Depends on priorities.

This is one of those cases where low tech has not really been bested by high, 'cept in special cases.
