A neat trick to eliminate snipe is to attach some sacrificial slats to the sides the same thickness as the piece you are planing and about 6" longer on both ends. That way the snipe occurs on the sacrificial boards (slats) instead of the piece you are working on.

Hi BPR,
james.miller's observation not withstanding, I wood say that they taste very dry, but each one a little different. Some taste of oak, others of maple or walnut. You get the idea.
