Single Bearing Quill Shaft Questions

Oh, me neither. I don't own a 10.

This MAGNA-LUBE picture came from my Mark V booklet (catalog) in the Accessories section page 17 from 1956.

As a fact, MAGNA-LUBE was $0.50 for the Mark V. Prices good as of January 1, 1957 per the price list.

After reading the instructions for Magna Lube I understand. The instructions say specifically for the quill spline.

It's all good dusty. I, to, am learning lots everyday as well. Especially from this forum.

My gut feeling tells me that a bearing needs a seating position whether it's in a housing or on a shaft.

The space I mentioned through me for a loop a little though. I questioned whether it was manufactured that way or not. I also thought that maybe it is, in fact, supposed to have the space because the spline shaft (at the spacing) has a slight groove lathed out. Most shafts I've seen that accept a fitted bearing are solid until the seating stop.

Hmm...
I'm sure more will answer as the sunlight begins to cook East TN! Supposed to be in the 60's today though. 43 when I awoke. 85 yesterday. Great day for football. TN/Florida, Ole Miss/AL, Miss State/Texas A&M, etc. The list goes on.

Sorry. Not trying to beat this to death but like to know.

The shaft is undercut so the inner race will bear against the flat end of the larger shaft.

I think it is 'enlightening' that the magna lube appears in Model 10 vintage accessory catalog(53), but not in later Mark 5 catalog(62).

I agree that it's intended purpose was for the "10" drive sleeve/spline and the quill gear rack. It would be appropriate for use on a M5/V/7 quill gear rack.

I use lithium grease(very light coating on the rack, liberally applied on the 10 splines).
