I paid $700 for my Pro on a stand. I would be careful about laying it down to transport, you could damage the table adjustors. I would go for the Pro if you have a choice.

Ok, thanks Dennis. I have talked to the owner and we will take the planer off of the base and probably disassemble the base before loading. I appreciate your input! The hybrid batteries are not that bad, but they do remove some room from the trunk ...

Wodnek, I think I have really decided to go with the Pro planer. I like the idea of it being on the stand, although the Mark 7 would be the perfect powerplant for it, the stand is the same HP and as I keep getting older (in spite of my efforts
) lugging that beast back and forth could become a hassle. Thanks for your help.

Thanks Fred, so I assume that the $400 is not that out of line. I also assume that the Pro doesn't have table adjusters? I will do some research.fredsheldon wrote:I paid $700 for my Pro on a stand. The 'vulnerable' parts are the table jack post screws. If they become 'legs', they may get bent.
As long as it sets on the intended mounting surface, it should transport safely. I would have a flat board to set it on if possible(not needed if riding on a flat surface).
The table is indeed 'adjustable' but involves rotating sprockets(there are four) relative to each other.
Not sure if that 'answer' is relevant to your intended ? It mounts to the power stand the same as the SS mount(screws from the bottom).
The following was moved from another thread since it really belongs ion this thread albeit timing is 'late'.
========================================================================================================
The ss mount: has an aluminum table(lighter), is limited by the 1 1/8 hp motor but has variable speed.
The stand mount will have a larger motor which allows running at a faster rpm and has a cast iron table. IIRC the original motor was 1.5 hp and the 'upgrade' moved up to a 1 3/4 hp motor and faster rpm.
Some were manual feed.

Can the the table jack post screws just be removed? I think I can just set the unit (off the stand) in the bottom of the trunk.JPG wrote:The 'vulnerable' parts are the table jack post screws. If they become 'legs', they may get bent.

Not practical! The whole thing would need to be disassembled.rjent wrote:Can the the table jack post screws just be removed? I think I can just set the unit (off the stand) in the bottom of the trunk.
Thanks JPG!
The jack screws(with small chain sprockets attached) do not protrude below the 'bottom, so as long as the screws/sprockets do not bear against anything all is well.
On a 'flat' trunk floor should be good. I would definitely keep it right side up.
You do not want it to 'tumble'!
The problem with 'shipping' these things is the weight distribution and that tumbling just alluded to. IIWM, I would try front(or rear) seat floor(if flat).
Mine rode ON the seat and belted in place!]old[/B] car for such duty.

I sounds like I will need to take pillows to bolster it up to make it comfy and stable!

What a disappointment! I drove 500 miles or a 1000 miles round trip (I am in a room on the way home) and I am not bringing the planer home. We fired it up and did some pretty serious planing with it. About an hour into it the pulley came burning through the cover and off of the blade shaft. The shaft is hammered. I feel pretty confident that I could save it, but it just wasn't worth the gamble. that shaft and head is about 400 bucks from the mothership (I checked). The pulley and cover would only be about 30 bucks, but I just didn't want to take the gamble.
So, I am back on the hunt for a planer. I am still not convinced that a ProPlaner is absolutely what I want, I would try a SS mounted one, particularly seeing how the Pro works. The PowerPro would be the perfect powersource.
