You may want to check the spacer that JPG referred to. They sometimes get worn and embed themselves into the fan sheave

thanks, Found the hole.
New parts came in and started to put it together.
BUT the new sheave would not go on the shaft.
Called to ask if there were two different sizes, answer is no.
I had used emery cloth to be sure there were no burs on the shaft.
S.S. was quick to sent a diff. sheave and would have ENG. check the sheave
for tollerances.
After 25 years of the spring and viberations pushing on the snap ring the
whole grove for the snap ring was a burr, an aggressive use of emmery cloth
the sheave now will slip on. Back together - working fine.
