Is that the publisher of the books Nick says to buy or the publisher Nick says to avoid? I think the originals were done by Rodale and I think the new one is being done another publisher using an entirely new picture of Nick at a cabinet saw on the cover.

According to that page, all versions were by Rodale Press.. even the 1997/1999 versions (both hardcover & paperback)..

Nick -- does that sound right?

Ed, I don't know for sure, since I don't own the book. But based on what is advertised in the half.com (by ebay) link I would conclude that Rodale is the publisher of the new release.

I got some of the library books I mentioned earlier and doing a quick look, I was rather impressed. Lots of info, plus lots of pictures. I was amazed at the number of projects in the Outdoor book. And plans for everything. Better than a lot of other books I've looked at.

I'm not sure Nick was talking about books published by Rodale, just books published after a certain date or the new forthcoming book???????

The book was originally published by Rodale Press. Rodale sold their woodworking division to Reader's Digest in 1997, including the marketing rights to my books. Reader's Digest published a new edition of Woodworking Wisdom under its Family Handyman flag in 1999 and it has been out-of-print since then. (A little intellectual property law: When a book is not actively marketed by a publisher for a period of time, it's rights revert to the author. Rodale's contracts defined this period as six months.) Reader's Digest sold American Woodworker magazine and it's woodworking books to New Track Media in 2007, including many out-of-print books. None of the authors were ever notified -- I still have not been notified to this day. New Track went shopping for a book publisher to reprint its acquisitions and last I heard they had settled on Fox Chapel. The release of an updated edition from F&W Publications (mentioned in Ed's link) was a project of mine that died aborning when Readers Digest's lawyers contacted F&W lawyers and told them that they had sold the rights six months prior. I don't know why F&W still has the announcement on their web site.

You obviously don't have to answer but if I understood what you wrote don't you (the author) own the rights to the books Reader Digest sold to New Track in 2007?

Good news for me is all your books I own were purchased from Rodale.
