Can you install them on an older unit? Do don't see screw holes? Do they come with a drilling template and instructions?

Yup...Looks you have to drill screw holes. No template, at least with mine. But the guard itself will act as a guide.

Other "New Model" Features

My main Mark V unit is a newer 510 which has the Shaft Guard piece, so that feature looks "normal" to me.
BTW, I am also restoring an '81 model 500. I notice the speed-knob's style changed slightly since then, and the little "twirl knob" on the speed-knob is fixed (rather than rotating) on the new models.
In the interest of avoiding a rattle source, on my older 500 speed-knob I am going to "J-B Weld" the back of the little twirl-knob, so it's rigid like the newer speed knobs.
