Yes that is the one very slight downside when turning jewelry and wine corks easily solved several ways discussed elsewhere. To avoid the search, you need to extend the tail-stock live center about 3" either using a #2 to #2 Morse taper extender or two Shopsmith live center extenders, one comes with the lathe duplicator.

Thank you all. I believe I got my question anwsered. Now I'll just have to wait for them to go on sale again.

any one have a PDF copy of the paper wook that is with the Universal lathe tool rest, bought a 02 50th 520 it camy with it without any papers.

If you want to find it yourself - go to the Shopsmith Owner's site - on the Products list (on the left side of the page) click on The red triangle in front of the words "Lathe Turning" - then click "Turning Accessories" from the drop down list - then click "Universal Tool Rest" from the next drop down menu.
