Today in the shop (Spirocraftering)

Echoing the compliments both on the routing and the Cordoba! Reible's posts back 8-9 years ago on a forum were part of what pushed me over the edge to buy a Shopsmith.

The chair, with this routing addition, takes on a nearly 'Corinthian' dimension of beauty.

As some of you already know I have a 1979 Chrysler Cordoba and yes it has the leather seats. It has just over 40K miles so the previous owner, a little old lady and I did/do not use it a lot. I'd like to take it out today but it needs some exhaust work and I think I'm getting to old to do that sort of thing anymore so I need to take it in.

I worked at a Chrysler dealership for 44 years and the vehicle that I drooled over more than any other was the year the Cordoba came out. I absolutely loved the lines of that car.

This part of the project was so much fun I decided to do it again....... well that and my attempt to color the letters was such a failure that I had to sand it off and start over. Good thing the wood is so thick!

So here is take two:

Belt sanded clean.

It should look pretty much like the first try as I liked how that looked and wanted to do it again. Results:

I also did a sample routing on a scrap left from this project and have sprayed some thompson's waterseal (clear multi-surface) that I found in the bargain bin for $3. If that works as a base coat then I look at doing the chair again with blue. If it fails then I have other options to explore.

Today was a good day. I had coated the design with 2 coats of deft sanding sealer and added the blue paint. Today it was time to see how well that worked or...........

IT WORKED GREAT!

It came out like I expected it to the first time, it looks just fine and I can retain my status as a wood worker.

Now I can do the final sanding and give it a clear coat of Min-wax followed by a coat or three of oil and it will be done.

You most certainly can!!!!!! I hadn't realized your very high status had faded even a little.

The reason my status slipped did not appear here, the first attempt at the painting was pretty bad. If it had not been for a redo people would certainly have gotten the wrong idea of my personal standards....... I've had requests for more of these chairs but I'm not getting into that busyness, I've plenty of other project that need doing.

BTW I see in the Menards ad that 2 x 12 are on sale for those who want to try your own.
