The last ocilloscope I used was in the Army back in 1954. Only green screens. Color is nifty.

When I was in high school in the 70's, a ham-operator friend gave me an old military-surplus scope. It was about the size of a large ice chest, and you could unscrew modules on the front panel that slid out like drawers, chock full of vacuum tubes. It weighed maybe eighty pounds, and must have cost a small fortune. Premium construction throughout. I seem to recall using it to look at the lovely waveforms of Karen Carpenter's voice on my basement eight-track system (salvaged from a wrecked car), but I don't think I ever did anything actually useful with it.
