Hi Ed! There is a bit of difference from the SS/HF clamp and yours. The newer version has an "X" opening rather than just a right angle. This "X" allows more options to clamp. For example, a mid board right angle "T" butt joint.

Shopsmith posted the possibilities.

Have to say I have not looked at what shopsmith posted but I think the design is pretty much the same. Here is another photo of mine with out anything in the jaws.

I'll have to check the site for examples of clamping modes to see if I can glean something, never know what I might have been overlooking all these years.

Along time ago, some one connected to SS kin some way demo'ed the Bessey corner clamp. but what they demo'ed was not the clamp but the aux clamp that came with it. Bought one just to get the other clamp. If I remember correctly the aux clamp fitted on the SS and held perfectly. But that about all I remember. I ca't remember what it did or what made it so perfect for the SS. I think I can still find the thing and if I can I will dig it up.

It might be from the Old Yankee Workshop days, back when Norm was using a SS.

But I'm almost certain I bought the clamp to get the aux that went with it.

After another look - Yes they (old and new) are the same clamp! only new materials most noticeably in the handle.

I was just over at the rockler.com putting an order together when I spotted this "deal".

If you love name brands then maybe this would be a deal and it sure looks like the metal body version I have....... but it is listed as plastic.

Something else came to mind on these clamps, I think I have a device that holds it to a bench. I sure don't know where that is.

So anyway, do the new version of these clamps have that option and do they sell such a thing?

On my clamp there are 4 such holes as shown below, two on the handle side and two on the other.

Yeah that is the part I was talking about. I think they used it like the Rockler fence clamp. Drilled a hole a board and used the clamp to hold the wood against whatever. Seems like I saw someone using it to hold an aux wood table to the main table without having to deal with a clamp protruding above the table. I remember that I got the clamp for that reason and used the hold down clamp a lot but I think when I went to the 510 the table webbing made doing this a bother and I stopped using it.

Hi and welcome to the forum!

Some of the earlier photo makes it look like that but it does have he "X" and works the same way they do. Another viewer also mentioned this so I can understand the issue due to the photos, perhaps another day I'll get it out and try to shoot a better picture of it.

Well Ed I sure don't know where my clamp is and if I ever find it I'll try and remember to post a picture.

I do have the Rockler clamps, actually two sets of them and they are really handy for a lot more then pictured in the catalog. While the initial purchase was with the idea of using them to hold an aux. fence in place I found the back screw pad ends up at the same location as the t-slot on the 520 fence so you have to add a thin strip to deal with that. But I'm glad you mentioned them as I will see if they will work for this clamp....... and I'll let you know if it does.
