This bench, along with many other of my builds are how and have been at "The Log Cabin Store" in Kittanning, PA and the spool bench and the carved rebel flag bench, are receiving a lot of oohs and awws.
Wish me luck, ladies and gents, for a possibility of gaining, additional exposure!

You might try a trench coat .....
Seriously that is nifty. Any reason why one spool end is grain parallel to the ground and the other vertical?
Just curious, that bothers my German eye ..... LOL

The spool flanges are 2 ply with the inner/outer boards oriented 90 degrees. Hence the outside is vertical and the inside horizontal(or vice versa

).

This concoction requires at least a few days in the hot sun, to brew. Pour vinegar in a sealed glass jar, over 1/2 pad of "000" steel wool and let it, do its thing for a few days. Each day, give it a shake or two.

Growing up dad worked for the telephone company and they did not reuse the cable reels back then. Our dining room table was a modified cable reel as were the end tables and the tables on the patio. He had a thing for using the propane torch to add a aged patina. We also had some large ones we would walk on like circus walkers and roll them around the neighborhood. How did we ever survive?

In our town the dump site had two parts. One was for garbage and the other for things that could be burned such as wooden boats (yes I saved a couple of those), brush, telephone wire spools and all sorts of building materials. Now this was back in the good old days and picking through this was a way of sharing and the pile would only need burning about once a year in the winter. It was recycling at its best, reusing.
Well the really large spools were large enough that if you were to break out a couple of boards a small person (child) could fit inside. By sliding the remaining boards around you could cage yourself in. Of course adults need not apply for this sort of fun.
We would bike down that way during the summer as kids and find a spool or two and just had to have a ride. I mean we couldn't fish all the time.
It just so happened that the brush dump also was on a slight hill. We would push the spool up the hill, climb in and added a life vest to make it comfortable and ride down inside. On a really good ride you might end up going past the end of the dump area and into the trees. Most of the trees were small and gave a nice ending to the ride, how ever a few larger trees were there so some rides had a jarring ending. No one ever got hurt that I remember, well maybe a few bruises. Of course all things must come to an end and that did too.
We sure knew how to have fun back then.

Kids these days don't know how to have fun. But a lot is do to the nanny state. The government thinks they have to protect us from ourselves. It's sickening.
