Nova has the new Infinity chuck, which offers quick change jaws, similar to the Easy Wood Tools chuck or you can now modify your existing Nova chuck to a quick change chuck. See link below:

I have the Nova Precision Midi Chuck which uses two levers (Tommy Bars) to tighten and I have some optional jaws.

The lever tightening method is fairly quick, you just have to keep them within reach. I use a magnet on the legs to stick what I need handy such as drill chuck key, or the Tommy Bars.

For the cost to upgrade my chuck, the speed would be hard to improve much over what it is now. Are there improvements in the mechanism that would in some way make other improvements that I just can't envision?

The Nova Midi Chuck has been very reliable. I feel certain the newer G3 would be an equally quality chuck, I just haven't used one. Does anyone out there have experience with both types?

So, indulge me here please. If I were to order elsewhere, just what are the specs of our Mark V's? What must I order, in order to be sure that my purchase, will fit my Mark V?

It has to mount on a plain 5/8" shaft.

Most likely that will require an adapter. One end = 5/8" straight bore, the other end = chuck mount threads.

If you buy the G3 chuck you will need to get the SS adapter for it. The number from Nova is "ISNS". You can find the complete listing of Nova's adapters on their website. Make sure that you spec the proper one for the Shopsmith.

The Teknatool ISNS Nova 5/8" plain bore adapter I presently use for the Nova Precision Midi Chuck should be the same for the G3 from what I understand you are saying.

I can't say for sure if it will work or not. You will have to call Nova in Tampa. You can also look on the Nova website and see what adaptor is used for the two models. If they call out the same part for each of the chucks then you will be OK. If you are using the "ISNS" for your Precision chuck then it will work on the G3.

I saw when they introduced that chuck after I bought my original Nova chuck. It looks impressive as can be. Their carbide turning tool offerings with cutter heads that can be replaced (which Shopsmith sells as an option) are the best I have ever used, so I feel certain their Easy Chuck is just as amazing.
