I assume he saw it. I can't speak for Dusty, but this line comment makes it seem as if you're trying to downplay the horror of what happened in Oregon.

I thought your initial comment was spot-on. Better than mine.

If I believed gun control would prevent incidents like Oregon I would be all for it. But drugs have been illegal and nearly every city is over run with drugs. Prositution is illegal and every city has their share. Chicago has the strongest gun laws but they have a horrendous record of shootings. There is no law that can be made that will make this country gun free forever, so what is the point of talking about something that simply will not work?

and a touchy subject! For ANY law to work, guns, drugs, whores, ect,it takes 3 things to make the law work, first, enforcement; second, a conviction rate; third, a severe, for the crime, penalty. If you have just one missing/weak, you can wipe your butt with that law on that subject.

What criminal thinks of any of that before shooting?

Beeg, most likely none, sorry to say. They are acting on emotion. I was more talking about the 15 year old who wants to steal your car in a bump and run, who here in WI would not get chased, ect, they know the system, and evaluate there odds.

John Lott discusses the rationality of crime in his book "More guns, less crime". The exception to the deterrent effect of increased number of people carrying guns for self-defense are these shootings where the killer is also often suicidal. In that case, having the pistol at hand to use to stop a killer is quite necessary. The army vet who rushed the gunman was heroic, but unsuccesful. Probably would have turned out differently if he had been armed.
A month ago on a train from France to Belgium an ISIS terrorist tried to open fire on passengers. Three US army guys on vacation saw him going to the bathroom with the AK-47 and they decided to rush him when he came out. Fortunately, the AK-47 misfired and the terrorist didn't know how to clear the jam so they were able to fight him to the ground. Had the gun not jammed, their success would have been a bit doubtful.
